Developers plan to build a 103-room Candlewood Suites hotel and a five-story, 36-unit multifamily residence for Major League Baseball players in Mesa, Arizona, near the Chicago Cubs spring training facility. Called The Den on Rio Salado, the 3.2-acre mixed-use project at 2630 W. Rio Salado Parkway will replace the former Maricopa County Animal Care and Control shelter. The residential building will feature red brick inspired by Chicago architecture. The property is owned by Boyd Development Co and designed by Design Cell Architecture.
