Developer Satya has broken ground on a 350,000-square-foot Hyatt hotel in Houston’s Texas Medical Center. The 14-story dual-branded property, located in a Qualified Opportunity Zone at the corner of Old Spanish Trail and Fannin Street, will include a 159-key Hyatt Place and a 139-key Hyatt House. The hotel is within the sprawling Texas Medical Center, a 2.1-square-mile neighborhood with more than 60 medical institutions, about 7 miles south of downtown. which is to be completed in 2022. Guestrooms will offer in-room kitchens and living rooms, a 24-hour hotel dining area, a full-service restaurant and lobby café, two bars and a parking garage with more than 300 spaces. A seventh-floor amenity deck will offer 3,500 square feet of meeting space, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center and a guest laundry room. Satya CEO is Sunny Bathija.  The project team includes architect G2, project consultants HarDam Hotels and The Mathis Group, contractor E.E. Reed Construction and IBC Bank, which provided financing.

A Hyatt Place Hotel is being built near Fisherman’s Inn and Crab Deck on the waterfront at Kent Narrows in Grasonville Maryland. The project is being built by Mackenzie Commercial Real Estate and will be complete in the 3rd quarter of 2022. It will have a 5,000 sf conference center and 44 slip marina. Jody Schulz is leading the development partnership and is and the of the Fisherman’s Village complex. The project was financed by MacKenzie Capital LLC.

A new hotel has been approved for downtown Tuscaloosa Alabama. The 94-room Element by Westin hotel is planned for a hillside vacant lot at the intersection of 21st Avenue and Jack Warner Parkway. The hotel will be five stories including a basement and will be developed by Baywood Hotels Inc. It will include a fitness center, bar and dining areas, a bicycle borrowing program and charging station for electric vehicles. A total of 93 parking spaces are planned for the site and the structure itself is proposed to feature an all brick veneer façade, metal railings and metal frame windows. Construction will begin in the 2nd quarter of 2021.

Ketchum Idaho’s planning and Zoning met Tuesday to consider a proposal to add a new four-star hotel to the main gateway to the resort town. The Ketchum Marriott Tribute would sit at the corner of River St. and Main St., to the south of the Limelight Hotel and contain 92 guestrooms, a rooftop bar, a restaurant and conference and meeting space. The hotel is being designed by Justin Heppler of AJC Architects and developed by PEG Companies.

Under proposed plans an industrial site in the Derby City’s Old Louisville neighborhood would be repurposed to include apartments, a hotel and a grocery store, and other uses. Developer Vintage South Development, filed an application with Louisville Kentucky Metro Planning and Design Services to convert 32 acres at West Ormsby and West Magnolia avenues at the former Voght Machine Co. property into a mixed-use development. The address for the plan is 1000 W. Ormsby Ave and calls for 492 residential units, including a 552,000-square foot apartment building, a restaurant and retail space, a seven-story, 87-room hotel, a pool bar and lounge, multiple ballrooms, a brewery/distillery, a children’s museum and library, an entertainment venue, an office and museum building, a food-and-beverage complex, a grocery store and additional office and retail space. Vintage South Development founder is Nathan Lyons.

Dodson Development, CEO Duke Dodson is planning a $25 million-plus, four-phase project that includes building new town homes and waterfront condos, renovating existing office and retail buildings, and constructing a boutique beachfront hotel along the Potomac River in Colonial Beach Virginia. Construction on the first two phases should start in about six months, and parts of those projects would be ready in late 2021. Work on the last phase, a 60- to 90-room hotel — would start about 18 months and be ready in 2024. The boutique hotel is located at Wilder Avenue and Beach Terrace with a panoramic view of the Potomac. The company is still working out details for the hotel, including the size and an operator.

A Mandarin Oriental resort has begun construction in the Beach Bay area of Bodden Town Grand Caymen in the Caymen Islands. Work on the two, nine-story buildings, which will comprise the resort and residences, will be completed in the middle of 2022. Architect’s rendering show a tiered, multi-level building surrounded by a lagoon-style swimming pool and dotted with beachfront cottages and restaurants.  Spencer Levine of RAL Development Services, is partnering with Ryan Melkonian to build the project.

Developer 1040 Dewey LLC managed by Kyong Baek and Jai Baek are proposing to build a 6-story hotel at 956-962 Menlo Ave located in the Koreatown area in Los Angeles California. The planned hotel calls for a 96 guestroom hotel to be built on the southeast corner of Koreatown. 1040 Dewey LLC acquired the two small residential properties for $4.5 million in June 2018 and June 2019. The developers plan to break group in mid 2021.

Developers have closed on a Mary Avenue property where they plan to build a 182-room AC Hotel by Marriott with a conference center and public parking garage in downtown Waco, Texas. Paul Barham of SRH Hospitality plans to start early next year building the conference hotel at Sixth Street and Mary Avenue, just across the railroad from Magnolia Market and a few blocks from two other planned Mary Avenue hotels. Developers are expecting to put $60 million into the project, which is envisioned as part of a plan to make Mary Avenue a key street for entertainment and leisure in downtown. The hotel will front on Mary with a glass façade, a roof terrace and sidewalk café. The project would be completed in late 2022 or early 2023. Two other hotels approved along Mary Avenue include The 175-unit Embassy Suites at Third Street would have 308 parking spaces, including 141 for the public and a 110-unit Hyatt Place at Mary and Fourth Street would have 180 parking spaces, including 66 public spaces.

A $400 million mixed use development plans to break ground in Dilworth North Carolina.  Developer The Fallon Company has unveiled plans for the mixed-use development on a 16.7-acre site on the edge of Dilworth, where Strawn Cottages once stood.
