Triple-Five owners of the Mall of America in Bloomington Minnesota will partner with the city with plans to co-develop a giant indoor water park and 500-700 guestrooms hotel. The city will spend $7.5 million on a design plan for the $250 million project. The money will go toward a $10 million development contract to design the 250,000-square foot facility, which would sit just north of the Mall of America and be operated by owners Triple Five. Triple Five will pay the remainder of the contract cost.
The hotel will be between the waterpark and a planned 1,500 stall parking garage just north of the Mall of America. The hotel is being actively worked on right now but is not part of the waterpark approval process. The hotel will be family oriented and be privately financed. Development submittals are still in the conceptual phase. Triple-Five plans to lease the land to a hotel developer and currently a flag has not be selected. Kurt Hagen is senior vice president of development for the Mall of America and Triple Five. The facility, would be the nation’s second-largest water park. Minneapolis architect DLR Group is designing the project and Ryan Cos. US Inc. is functioning as project manager.
