A new proposal for the River Arts District in Asheville North Carolina is proposing to construct dozens of new apartments and hotel rooms next door to The Grey Eagle, Asheville’s oldest local music venue. Plans filed with the city Jan. 12 show 34 residential units, 27 lodging units and 1,472 square feet of retail space with 42 parking spaces all contained within a single six-story building on just under three-quarters of an acre. The site would be accessed from both the Clingman Avenue Extension and Artful Way, with access to internal parking structure from Clingman. All 34 residential units will be studio apartments, between 475-500 square feet with high end finishes, washer and dryer, and all on the top two stories of the building. Hotel units are on the bottom two residential floors, with two levels of parking underneath. Architect Laura Hudson is designing the project. Artful Asheville LLC is developing the project.
