Developer Fariborz Moshfegh is planning to demo and existing apartment building and build a 10-story hotel in its place in Hollywood, California. Plans has been resubmitted to build the 156 guest room hotel at 1719 North Whitley Avenue. It would replace a two-story, 40-unit rent-controlled apartment complex, built in 1920 on a half-acre. The hotel, designed by Daryoush Safai, would include a series of iron balconies and include a rooftop pool deck.

They say that lightning never strikes in the same place twice, but for insurers, it strikes over 250,000 times per year, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in damages. In fact, the cost of homeowners’ claims for damage due to lightning strikes has increased dramatically — up 20 percent over the last three years. According to a new Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.) analysis of homeowners’ insurance data, there were 256,000 lightning claims in 2006, causing about $882 million in insured losses. The I.I.I. puts the average claim for lightning at $3,446. By comparison, in 2004, there were about 278,000 lighting...


The Auburn, Alabama City Council has approved the construction of a new AC Marriott Hotel in downtown Auburn. Proposed by RAM Hotels the new AC Hotels by Marriott will be located on 0.86 acres next door to Auburn Bank along North Gay Street. The hotel would contain 129 guestrooms, two bars and a restaurant. Rinkesh Patel is the CEO of RAM Hotels. Webb Construction is the general contractor.

Developer 510 Hospitality LLC is planning a new Hilton branded Homewood Suites Hotel at the Hilltop area of Richmond, California. The hotel is will be 79,618 square feet, with five stories and 103 guest room, and be located at the northeast corner of 3101 Garrity Way and Blume Drive. Amenities will include an outdoor seating area, fitness room, conference room and bicycle storage lockers. The rooms will also have kitchenettes. The project team includes: Design Cell Architecture, BKF Engineers, Hillview Construction LLC and L.A. Developer Taicoon Property Partners LLC plans to tear down the existing building at 1501 Langston Blvd in Arlington, Virginia and build a 94-unit condo hotel, branded with a major, hotel flag. Designed by WDG Architecture the condo hotel would feature hotel services including butlers, valets, spa and high end amenities.  The 392,000 square feet building would be 11 stories, including a penthouse, over three levels of structured parking with 205 spaces. Non-penthouse units would range from one to three bedrooms, between 1,100 and 2,900 square feet.  Six penthouse units would be 4,700 square feet. Land Use Group PLLC is the project’s land use attorney. Hai Chien Want is CEO of Taicoon.

Developer Replay Destinations, is planning a 10-acre mixed-use $500 million redevelopment of the former lumber mill site, in downtown Healdsburg, California that will include a 53 guest room Mill District Hotel. The hotel located at 164 Healdsburg Ave will feature a spa and wellness center, outdoor pool with spa deck. The project is in the design review process with Healdsburg, and is expected to begin construction in the spring 2025 and be completed in spring 2027. Dunnigan Sprinkle Architects is designing the project.

Developer Plamondon Hospitality Partners, led by Pete Plamondon Jr. in collaboration with Marriott International is proposing to build a mixed use project in Frederick, Maryland that would include a 208 guest room Marriott-branded hotel at the corner of East Patrick and South Carroll streets, with 22,000 square feet of conference space, restaurants, and bars, and a separate 2,678-square feet building to contain retail space. The project team includes Brandon Rowe with Bohler Engineering and Fillat + Architecture whose CEO is Peter Fillat III.

Developers Silverwest Hotels and Civitas Capital Group, has closed a $150 million senior loan to finance construction of a 210 guest room Curio Collection by Hilton hotel on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Situated on 8.5 acres, within a 450‐acre oceanfront luxury resort community, the property will include a full service restaurant, pro shop for the 18‐hole Jack Nicklaus Ocean Course at Hokuala, an outdoor pool, 27,000-square-feet of interior and outdoor meeting and event space and a fitness center. This will be Hilton’s second branded hotel on the island.

Developer 3H Group, Inc has submitted site plans to the City of Jacksonville Florida through Jax Village Lodging, LLC to build a four-story, 122 guest room Hyatt Studios off Village Crossing Drive in Jacksonville. The Hyatt would add to its portfolio of 20 properties, in which it partners with brands like Marriott, Hilton, IHG and Choice. Hyatt Studios hotels, rooms emulate studio apartments offering dedicated space to work, with amenities to relax or dine. Dan Hansen is global head of Hyatt Studios. Conelly & Wicker is listed as the engineer for the project. Hiren Desai is the president of 3H Group. The project will open in late 2025.
