A new plan to replace the Red Roof Inn in Newark, Delaware with a more modern extended-stay hotel is working its way through Newark’s development approval process. SSN Hotels, which operates more than 20 hotels in the region, plans to demolish the motel at 1119 S. College Ave. and replace it with a six-story Home2 Suites by Hilton. The 126-room hotel would have parking on the first level and five floors of hotel rooms above, as well as a pool and patio. SSN is also planning a convenience store and gas station at the site, but it will be considered under a separate plan that has not yet been submitted to the city. The Red Roof Inn was built in the 1960s as a Howard Johnson Hotel.
