Developer Weyland Ventures acquired the former Hardin County Courthouse in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, with plans to transform it into a boutique hotel. The firm launched the Common Bond Hotel Collection, a hospitality group to deliver a series of boutique hotels throughout Kentucky. The exterior and footprint of the building will remain the same and the interior will be renovated to include 24 guestrooms in the hotel. Like all the hotels in the collection, the Hardin County hotel will feature a food and beverage concept. The top floor of the three-story building will house the eatery, including craft cocktails and small plates. The hotel will also offer valet and other parking options. The Common Bond Hotel Collection will include seven hotels over the next three years. Including boutique hotels in Bardstown, Frankfort, Louisville and Paducah, Kentucky. The first project under the Common Bond banner will be the Bardstown Motor Lodge and Toogie’s Table, a reimagined design of the former Bardstown Parkview Motel and Kurtz Family Restaurant in Bardstown, Kentucky. Mariah Gratz is CEO of Weyland Ventures. Craig Pishotti is co-founder of Collon Bond Hotel Collection. Michael Wajda, former executive chef at Lodgic Everyday Kitchen in NuLu, is working with Weyland Ventures LLC on the culinary aspects of each hotel.

Construction has started on a new hotel in downtown Huntsville Alabama. The Autograph Collection by Marriott will be built at the southwest corner of the reconstructed parking garage on Monroe Street across from the Von Braun Center’s Propst Arena. The hotel, will have eight floors and 200 guest-rooms. The $40 million project will have a rooftop bar overlooking Big Spring Park as well as two-full service restaurants and conference & banquet space. The hotel is expected to be completed by late next year or early 2024. Ascent Hospitality is the project developer. A hotel is also planned as part of a $325 million development known as Front Row at the former site of the Coca-Cola bottling plant on Clinton Avenue. And a Moxy hotel adjacent to the AC Hotel is planned for the third phase of CityCentre.

Casino owner PENN Entertainment plans for a $100 million, 180 guestroom hotel development at the Hollywood Casino in Columbus Ohio on the west side. The hotel project include new food and beverage offerings. The new hotel will be attached to the existing property and will add about 100 new permanent jobs, along with hundreds of temporary construction jobs. Penn also is planning upgrades to the existing casino which was built in 2012. Jay Snowden is CEO of PENN Entertainment. Construction is expected to begin in the 4th quarter of 2023.

Plans are underway to build a new hotel, office space and residential development to Ontario Ohio’s shopping district off U.S. 30. Real Estate Company Moment Development, presented its preliminary plans for a four-story hotel and other projects to the Ontario Planning Commission. Moment Development recently bought six parcels of land off Walker Lake Road. The City of Ontario and Moment Development have a Planned Unit Development agreement in which both parties determine the standards of the development project before assigning a specific zoning code. Chris Knapton, director of development administration for Moment Development, plans to build the hotel first and later add restaurants, office space and residential townhomes or apartments. Moment Development is planning a summer 2023 groundbreaking for the hotel, with most of the project’s construction planned for fall and winter 2023. The hotel will be a 120-unit Home2 Suites by Hilton Hotel located at 2577 Walker Lake Rd. It will include 154 parking spaces shared between the hotel and restaurant space. Moment Development will present edited plans to the Ontario Planning Commission Nov. 9. After the planning commission approves the development, it will go to Ontario City Council for final approval before construction may start.

The developers of a mixed use project on Congress Street in Portland Maine presented their plans to replace a run-down building with a 12-story luxury hotel. The proposal includes the site of the former Portland Press Herald printing plant to be called Herald Square which comprises three attached buildings, including a 156 guest room hotel, 297 condominiums, seven retail units totaling about 11,500 square feet, a 5,100-square-foot restaurant, recreation space and more than 330 parking spaces. Fathom Companies, is the hotel developer and is expected to present its initial site plan proposal to the planning board at a workshop on Oct. 25. Marieke Thormann is the vice president of development for Fathom. Daniel Riley, vice president of design & engineering company, Sebago Technics, is managing the hotel project through the city review process. The 135-foot tall hotel will provide 70 below-ground valet parking spaces for guests. A small public space will be created in front of the hotel’s entrance near Congress and Myrtle streets and the hotel could feature a coffee shop and restaurant. A landscaped amenity deck, including a public promenade and green space bisecting condo units and fitness and meeting areas, is part of the project. No hotel brand has been selected.

The owners of the Downtown Sheraton Hotel Memphis Tennessee are planning a $226 million renovation and expansion of the hotel across from the Renasant Convention Center. Owner Starwood Capital Group was granted a 30-year payment in lieu of tax incentive and a 5% tourism development zone surcharge by a Downtown Memphis Commission board. Starwood Capital plans to renovate the entire hotel and construct a new tower to add 300 rooms to the 600-room hotel.   Currently, renovations are expected to start in late 2023 and will be phased to allow the hotel to continue to operate. The work is projected to take 18 months. Construction of the new tower is expected to begin in 2024 and take 20 to 22 months. Rob Tanenbaum is managing director of asset management for Starwood.

The Easton, Pennsylvania Planning Commission granted a conditional land development approval for the proposed Grand Riverview Hotel on South Delaware Drive. The proposal is for an eight-story, 108-room hotel by developer Terry Briggs of Chester Franklin Group LLC. The facility is to be located on the river corridor at 289-303 S. Delaware Drive, also known as Route 611. In addition to the guest rooms, meeting and event spaces, a restaurant and bar, rooftop venue, terrace and gazebo are planned. The developer’s plan is to reactivate the cave left on the property by Kuebler Brewing Company by using it in a food and beverage concept. In addition, the proposal calls to preserve any existing foundation walls left behind by the previous building. The brewing company opened in 1850 and closed just over 100 years later in 1952. The proposed 160,296-square-foot hotel will rise 98 feet above the ground and will include 3.5 parking floors. The first floor parking deck will include 49 parking spaces, with 47 combined on the second and third floors, and 21 on the fourth for a total of 215 spaces. In addition, the developer indicated an exclusive elevator is proposed for the fourth floor, which visitors can take down to what will be called Kuebler’s Cave. The fifth, sixth and seventh floors are scheduled to consist of a mix of king- and queen-sized rooms and various amenities. A penthouse is proposed for the eighth floor, which will include kitchen and banquet facilities, meeting spaces and a restaurant.

A hotel is ready to begin construction as a piece of a downtown Raleigh North Carolina project. Plans have been filed with the City of Raleigh for the construction of a 138-room hotel at 415 S. Blount St. The hotel developer, Summit Hospitality, is working with Williams Realty & Building Company to bring a hotel and apartment project to the site. The hotel will be a Marriott-branded TownePlace Suites. Plans show one 7-story building totaling 85,000 square feet and featuring 138 guest rooms. The hotel site is currently used as a parking lot. The hotel would include a lobby bar, expanded fitness facilities and integrated outdoor terraces. The apartment portion of the development, situated at 414 S. Person St., is already under construction and is being marketed as The Acorn on Person Street. The building will also rise 7 stories and total 92,000 square feet. Approved plans show 4 stories of residential units 107 in total above 3 stories of shared structured parking. Cline Design Associates is the project Architect.

A developer is planning to build a 81 guestroom Home2 Suites by Hilton off Armory Road in Waterville Maine, close to Interstate 95 and two existing hotels. Hill Hospitality is proposing the hotel, which would be built on 2 acres to be split off from 75 Armory Road and 21 Industrial Park Road. Retlew Investment LLC, which owns 21 Industrial Park Road, is scheduled to ask the planning board for an informal preapplication review for the hotel. Retlew and Caprilite LLC, which owns 75 Armory Road, will also request revisions to a previously approved subdivision to create the 2-acre site for the hotel. Retlew and Caprilite want to sell the property to the developer, but the property must be subdivided before the sale to allow for hotel construction. The hotel is scheduled to break ground in 2024 and will have an indoor pool and fitness center.

The former Red Lion hotel at 102 S Third St in downtown St Joseph Missouri will be redeveloped into a 150 guestroom Courtyard by Marriott hotel. Construction of the new hotel is planned to begin May 31st 2023 pending approval from the St Joseph City Council. The anticipated opening of the hotel is Dec. 31, 2024. The property’s owner, and new hotel developer is HDDA. The new hotel will include a bistro, fitness room, and business center and conference space. Rod Rothschild is the president of HDDA.
