Developers are planning a project that would convert the historic former Hale Mill in Norwich Connecticut into a hotel. Gabi Benhamo, owner and developer for Mill Development LLC is proposing the project, an estimated $26 million renovation of the vacant mill into a 164-room boutique hotel with a restaurant, indoor pool, salon and 500-seat banquet hall. Construction is ready to start as soon as the council votes on the abatement plan. The property is located at 140 Yantic Road.

The city of Los Angeles California Planning Commission approved a proposal by developer Napa Industries LLC to build a new hotel in the North Hollywood area. The project would be located on the northwest corner of Lankershim Blvd and Hesby Street which would include a 7-story building with 125 guestrooms, 9,350 square feet of retail, a restaurant and an 85 space garage.  AXIS/GFA is designing the project which is a contemporary podium-type structure clad in a combination of metal, cement, and stucco. Plans call for a V-shaped footprint above street level, wrapping a rear-facing loading dock and parking area. A conference facility, a fitness center, and a rooftop pool deck are also proposed.

An $89 million project is planned for downtown Macon Georgia that would include a boutique hotel. MMI-Thornton LLC and Opterra Capital are planning the project, between First and Second, Poplar and Plum streets. The hotel will face Poplar Street and will contain 152 guestrooms. The development will also include a coffee shop, gym, restaurant, entertainment venues and 230 unit apartment complex. As part of the project the historic Newman Building will be renovated to connect the hotel with a pedestrian bridge. Naomi Mirsky is chief development officer of Opterra Capital.

Construction is set to begin this year on a new 171 guest-room hotel just off the University of Cincinnati’s campus in Ohio. The Hotel Celare, a Tribute Portfolio hotel developed by Crawford Hoying and Shaner Hotels, is planned to be built in the District at Clifton Heights development. Located at 310 Straight St., the hotel will have a jump lobby, rooftop bar, and multiple outdoor spaces with seven stories and 132,000 square feet of space. Plato Ghinos is president of Shaner Hotels. Bob Hoying is principal at Crawford Hoying. Meyers + Associates designed the project.

Developers are planning a 5-story project called the View on Main in Heber City Utah that would include hotel, timeshare and condo units. The project would include five-story buildings with 120 hotel rooms plus the timeshare and condos units. It would be built on a 3-acre lot between Wasatch High School and Main Street. The city planning commission will consider The View’s commercial final application. The project is being designed by Summit Engineering Group and BMB is serving as the project manager.

The Bloomington Minnesota Planning Commission will hear a plan for a new stayAPT Suites. The 70-room extended stay hotel would be built on the northwest corner of Wylie and Bettis drives. The hotel is being proposed by stayAPT Suites. Gary DeLapp is stayAPT Suites president and CEO.  Bloomington city staff has endorsed the plan, and it will go before the City Council for a final review.

Real estate developer, HCW, announced construction is currently underway for the Caesars Republic Scottsdale luxury brand hotel in Scottsdale Arizona. Located on the north side of Scottsdale Fashion Square, the 147-foot high, 260,000 square-foot hotel will feature five penthouse entertainment suites – each more than 2,000 square feet with outdoor terraces and butler kitchens, two unique Italian restaurant concepts, an expansive 13,500-square-foot indoor/outdoor event and meeting ballroom with a manicured lawn space, and a lively, elevated pool lounge and restaurant on the seventh floor with equally breathtaking views. The 11-story, 265-room hotel is on schedule to open in Q1 2024.  Project partners includes Caesars Entertainment and Macerich. Richard Huffman is CEO of HCW Hospitality Management.   Financing was arranged by Walker and Dunlop with National Bank of Arizona.

Hotel developer Elite Hospitality is planning to build a 100 guestroom boutique hotel and restaurant called the Compass in Flagler Beach Florida.  Elite recently completed a Margaritaville hotel in Jacksonville, and has developed other hotels in St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. Manoj Bhoola is the manager of Elite Hospitality. BRPH is the project Architect. The project is under review by the Flagler Beach City Commission.

East Bay Township Michigan planning commissioners will review developer’s plans to build a 140-room extended-stay Hyatt House hotel with an on-site restaurant, coffee shop, and indoor and outdoor pools on US-31 between the Hampton Inn and Traverse City State Park. According to project documents, applicant Chris Abbo and his partners are planning to build a 74-foot, five-story Hyatt House hotel at 1050 US-31 North. The Hyatt House brand is a residentially-inspired hotel experience offering spacious, apartment-style rooms and suites with full kitchens, according to the company’s website. The properties typically include amenities such as 24-hour workout rooms, laundry facilities, and convenience markets; outdoor commons areas; free breakfast with omelet bars; and H Bar, an on-site lounge. The Traverse City location would have both indoor and outdoor pools, a coffee shop and a restaurant with outdoor seating open to the public. Renderings show 140 room units in the hotel and 208 parking spaces. The project is being designed by Bowers + Associates.

Developer Chip Norton of Franklin Realty Advisors LLC plans two large-scale projects in downtown Worcester Massachusetts including a 150-unit apartment building on Front Street and 125-room hotel on the corner of Mercantile and Foster Streets. The proposals would significantly add to Norton’s holdings at the Mercantile Center complex, which already includes the 100 Front St. skyscraper, the office building at 120 Front St., and a parking garage. The hotel would be located next to 2 Mercantile St., one of Norton’s other development projects which is nearing completion.  Norton’s proposal for a 150-unit apartment building would be constructed at 90 Front St. above the two-story property which currently houses a CVS pharmacy and the Worcester District Registry of Deeds. The apartments would be market-rate, according to Norton’s presentation to the improvement district. Norton is still exploring partners for the two projects.
