A development company has moved to start construction on a 250-room hotel in Douglas County Georgia. The hotel part of the Foxhall Resort, a planned $2 billion project that developer Merrill Trust is building. The planned 5-story Westin is the next phase. The $180 million hotel project has approval from the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. The project will be financed by nearly $175 million in revenue bonds. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2024. Construction is scheduled to begin during the third quarter of 2022. There will be 400 full-time jobs available during construction and 400 full-time jobs created after the hotel is completed. Merrill Trust President and CEO is Harrison Merrill Jr.

Ras Al Khaimah is to open a multi-billion-dollar resort on Marjan Island in the United Arab Emirates with hotel & casino operator Wynn Resorts. The development will open in 2026 and will feature 1,000 rooms, at least 10 restaurants and a large convention centre. The resort will also include a gaming area. Tourism chiefs have formed a new division to regulate integrated resorts and ensure responsible gaming at all levels in the emirate. Marjan Island is a development of four reclaimed islands featuring more than 7.8 kilometres of pristine beaches and 23 kilometres of waterfront, in addition to world-class hotels and residential developments. The integrated development, featuring a world-class hotel, entertainment and gaming amenities. The new resort is in the initial stages of design and development and an integrated resort licence will be applied for from Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority. It is not known yet on which island the hotel will be built. Craig Billings is CEO of Wynn Resorts. Abdulla Al Abdooli is CEO of Marjan.

Construction has begun on an addition and renovation project at the Riverside Hotel in Garden City Idaho.  Riverside ownership partner David Wali is moving forward on a project to build a new indoor pool as well as a fitness center on the site. Riverside Hospitality purchased the hotel in 2011, dropping the national Doubletree branding and starting a series of upgrades and improvements to the large hotel property. The ownership group plans additional upgrades and changes to the hotel in the coming years. The property contains 300 guestrooms and a large conference center.

A developer for Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott is preparing to build a 100-room hotel on 1.68 acres at 1054 Suemac Road in Jacksonville Florida. The city is reviewing a permit for the four-story, 61,600-square-foot hotel at a cost of $9.9 million. The city issued a site-clearing permit Nov. 17. The site is at northeast Commonwealth Avenue and Interstate 295 in West Jacksonville. The developer is listed as SWAGAT1024 Hospitality LLC. Abbey Civil Engineers Inc. is listed as the general contractor, Eiland & Associates Inc. is listed as the project’s surveyor and A&K Land Planning & Design Inc. is listed as the landscape architect. St. Johns County is also reviewing an application for conceptual plans for a 55,000-square-foot Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott on 5.17 acres at 1740 County Road 210 W. The site is at northwest Interstate 95 and County Road 210.

Developer St. Joe Company, has three hotels under construction across Bay County with two of which sit in Panama City Beach Florida. The planned hotels include Embassy Suites by Hilton, located next to Pier Park; Homewood Suites by Hilton, located near the Panama City Beach Sports Complex; and Hotel Indigo, located at the Panama City Marina. The Embassy Suites will have 225 rooms, the Homewood Suites will feature 131 rooms and the Hotel Indigo will offer 124 rooms. The project will be complete in late 2022 and 2023. David Demarest heads hospitality for St Joe Company. Killian Construction is the general contractor for the Embassy Suites project.

Two new hotels are planned for Kokomo Indiana’s south side. A Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel will be built at 5126 Clinton Drive. The hotel operator, Bharat Patel, CEO of Sun Development & Management Corporation, received development plan approval from the Kokomo Plan Commission last month. Per the plans and Ryan Rediger, of the surveying and engineering company Stoeppelwerth & Associates Inc., the hotel will be four stories high. Another hotel, a Fairfield Inn by Marriott, will be built at 5148 Cartwright Road, located just south of the aforementioned hotel and just north of Kokomo Fire Department Fire Station 2. According to Wyatt Johnson, of 40th Parallel Surveying, the hotel will be four stories high and face north. The current plan is to construct a road through the property off of Cartwright Road and in line with Kentucky Drive that would lead to a courtyard in front of the hotel and parking located on the hotel’s west, north and east sides. The hotel will be operated by Muhammad Chaudhry, who also owns and operates the recently opened Holiday Inn Express at 5101 Cartwright Drive. Chaudhry will eventually build a third hotel just north of the Fairfield Inn that would face south, though the details and development plans for the potential third hotel have not been designed.

A new proposal for the River Arts District in Asheville North Carolina is proposing to construct dozens of new apartments and hotel rooms next door to The Grey Eagle, Asheville’s oldest local music venue. Plans filed with the city Jan. 12 show 34 residential units, 27 lodging units and 1,472 square feet of retail space with 42 parking spaces all contained within a single six-story building on just under three-quarters of an acre. The site would be accessed from both the Clingman Avenue Extension and Artful Way, with access to internal parking structure from Clingman. All 34 residential units will be studio apartments, between 475-500 square feet with high end finishes, washer and dryer, and all on the top two stories of the building. Hotel units are on the bottom two residential floors, with two levels of parking underneath. Architect Laura Hudson is designing the project. Artful Asheville LLC is developing the project.

Hotel developers Concord Hospitality Enterprises and HomeBase Partners are planning to build a new AC Hotel by Marriott at 227 S. Central Ave. in downtown Clayton Missouri. Once the two-story former police station is demolished, the developers would replace it with a new 11-story, 118,274-square-foot AC Marriott hotel with 206 rooms, along with meeting rooms and a rooftop bar and restaurant open to the public. The city of Clayton has been looking to repurpose the old headquarters since 2011 when the police department moved into a new $15 million headquarters at 10 S. Brentwood Blvd., across from Shaw Park. It sold the 0.34-acre property to the developers in October 2017 for $2.4 million. Construction of the hotel is expected to cost $43 million.

A Graduate Hotel is planned to be built on the current site of Anders Bookstore at the corner of West Magnolia Avenue and Wright Street in Auburn Alabama. The project will bring a five-story, roughly 140,000 gross square-foot Graduate Hotel to downtown Auburn, with 177 keys, event space and a coffee shop on the ground floor that will be open to the public. The hotel will feature a drop-off lane and its main entrance along its Magnolia Avenue frontage, and a raised porch that wraps around Magnolia to Wright Street. The on-site parking, the vast majority of which is in an underground deck, will be served by valet parking. The streetscape will try to continue and complement the existing streetscape downtown, with brick paving and tree wells. The fifth floor of the building features a food and beverage space and a terrace covered by a pergola and trellis. Jillian Agdern, of Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture is designing the project which is being developed by AJ Capital & Graduate Hotels.

A Developer plans to build a five-story building with extended stay hotel rooms and apartments on the south side of Northwest Cornell Avenue near Ninth Street in Corvallis Oregon. Twenty-two hotel rooms would occupy the first two floors, and the remainder of the 18,950-square-foot development would be comprised of 48 residences. The property’s owner and proposed developer is Bill Lawson of Corvallis Investments LLC. The Project manager Lyle Hutchens or Devco Engineering.
