A developer plans the $115 million redevelopment of the landmark Cabana Hotel. Centurion American is restoring the high-rise on Stemmons Freeway across from Victory Park in Dallas Texas. The 10-story hotel was built in 1962 by Las Vegas hotelier Jay Sarno, who also built the famed Caesar’s Palace. The building has been vacant since 2013. 
 
The developer plans to rehabilitate and renovate the property for approximately 260 hotel rooms as well as the hotel’s original amenities, including restaurant, entertainment and conference facilities. The project will also involve the restoration of the existing parking garage and the addition of one new level of parking.
Centurion American bought the building in 2017 and has gutted the interior. Rebuilding the hotel will take about 24 months.

The Duluth Minnesota downtown Sheraton hotel is getting a $7 million renovation. Renovations have started and are scheduled to be completed in early June 2020 right before the start of Duluth’s summer tourism season. Construction is focused on the hotel’s guest and meeting rooms, Restaurant 301, lounge, fitness center, lobby and public restrooms. Karen Pionk is the Sheraton’s general manager.
 
The kitchen will remain open throughout the work, and the restaurant will operate out of other spaces in the hotel. The lounge and restaurant will be turned into a community gathering space, where solo travelers can work in communal spaces and aren’t confined to their rooms. All 147 rooms will transition from away from traditional hotel styles. Instead of standard desks, they’re adding lounge chairs and movable tables. The former downtown Ramada Hotel Waterloo will be closed for the next nine months while it undergoes a major renovation by its owners. The owner, Makenda LLC of Madison, S.D. will invest $10 million to completely renovate the property into a dual Best Western Plus and Executive Residency hotel. The project will be a full renovation of the entire property. The renovation is expected to be complete by August. The new hotel will include 99 Best Western Plus rooms and 69 Executive Residency extended stay suites. Developer Cannon, Austin & Cannon is planning the construction of a $100 million mixed use project that will include a hotel as part of their Carrefour at the Gateway project in Germantown Tennessee. The first two phases of the project are set to cost $100 million and include about 100 apartments, a 150,000-square-foot office building, a 174-room hotel, and most of the project’s 100,000 square feet of retail. The apartments, would offer an elevated pool deck, a pet bathing salon, and exercise options including hot yoga. Office amenities are set to include high ceilings, Poplar Avenue signage, and an abundant parking ratio. The hotel will feature an industrial chic design and loft-style guest rooms, along with its own pool. FAB Studio is the project’s architect; BEI Basharkhah Engineering Inc. is the structural engineer; Allen & Hoshall is the civil engineer. Construction on the project’s first phase would begin at the end of 2020 and finish by the spring of 2022. That phase would include the 100 apartments and 150,000-square-foot office building, both situated on top of ground-floor retail. The Millennium Hotel in downtown Cincinnati Ohio will shut down on New Year’s Eve. The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority has a purchase contract for the hotel and to close on the property by Feb. 14. The Port, which has a purchase agreement to acquire the 872-room hotel for $36 million. Port CEO is Laura Brunner .

Dallas based Sam Moon is planning to open a luxury hotel in downtown Dallas. The Sam Moon Group, plans to build a 283-key JW Marriott hotel, at 2000 Ross Avenue in the Dallas Arts District. The 15-floor hotel will be built on top of an existing 10-level parking garage and is projected to open in February 2022. Amenities will include a grand ballroom and meeting space, 3,100-square-foot spa, 3,300-square-foot restaurant, 4,200-square-foot lobby bar, 2,100-square-foot fitness center and a rooftop pool deck and bar. Daniel Moon, vice president of Sam Moon Group. The restaurant will be located within the sky lobby on the 11th floor and will feature a large indoor and outdoor seating area. At the ground level, an urban bar, similar in style to New York and Chicago street level hotel bars, will welcome guests and those walking by to enjoy a drink at the hotel,” the company said in a news release. Tennessee developer Woodshire-Brevard, LLC, of Memphis proposes to develop a four-star Preferred Hotels & Resorts hotel, 147 condominiums inside three buildings up to 85 feet high, and 72 single-family homes at the site across the highway from Hightower Beach Park in Satellite Beach Florida.The Vue at Satellite Beach Resort would go across S.R. A1A from Satellite Beach’s 18-acre oceanfront wildlife and habitat preservation tract, which includes Hightower Beach Park. Dutch company citizenM plans a 280-room hotel in Chicago on North Michigan Avenue, within a 47-story tower planned just south of the river.
CitizenM will open the hotel on floors 6 through 15 of the 523-foot-tall building at 300 N. Michigan Ave. The tower also will include 289 rental apartments, 25,000 square feet of retail space, residential amenities on the 46th floor and a 22-space parking garage below ground.
 
The building, being developed by Sterling Bay and Magellan Development Group, also will include 289 rental apartments and 25,000 square feet of retail space. Construction should start early next year. It is designed by Chicago-based bKL Architecture. Two hotels totaling 600 rooms are planned near International Drive and across from Universal Orlando Resort’s future Epic Universe project. The two properties are proposed by Auro Hotels which filed plans with Orange County’s Pointe North development for the construction of two buildings of 105,788 square feet on the development’s Lot 2 and another 112,373 square feet on Lot 4 on about 7 acres of undeveloped land just west of the intersection of Universal Boulevard and Pointe Plaza Avenue. 
 
Plans submitted to the county show the development will include two hotels: A 450-room Marriott tri-branded property (Lot 2 site) and a 152-room Home2 Suites Hilton (Lot 4 site).
The plans also show a potential third hotel on Lot 3 in between the Marriott and Home2 sites which is a 155-room Hilton Garden Inn as well as a 638-space parking garage to its north. Tara Investments plans to build a duel branded Hilton hotel at 910 Division St Nashville, Tennessee. One hotel is a boutique Canopy and the other is a Homewood Suites. Combined, they would have 334 rooms, a rooftop bar and amenity space, as well as street-level retail space. The project is up for review at the Dec. 5 meeting of Metro’s Downtown Code Design Review Committee.
