A Wilmington, Del.-based developer has raised $6.2 million on the online investing platform CrowdStreet to develop the 235-room Washington Marriott Capitol Hill/NoMa in Washington, D.C.  The Buccini/Pollin Group raised the funds to develop the 13-story hotel, which will be located at the intersection of First and L streets, NE, just north of Union Station and Capitol Hill. Construction is already underway at the hotel, which had $105.1 million total project capitalization.  The hotel’s location in close proximity to Capitol Hill and the Union Station transit hub also makes it a likely beneficiary of government and lobbying activity, as well as travelers who need to access the Washington, D.C., central business district and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs.  The hotel, the latest in The Buccini/Pollin Group’s growing portfolio, is scheduled to open in the last quarter of 2022 and will be managed by PM Hotel Group. It will feature a glass-enclosed, two-story lobby; ballroom; restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining; and Marriott’s signature M club.

Developer Rebkee Co. started work in recent weeks to raze the former Macy’s store at the Virginia Center Commons mall’s eastern end, where collaborator Shamin Hotels is planning a hotel that would anchor the new development, a mix of residential and retail, alongside an indoor sports and convocation center for Henrico County Virginia. Rebkee and Shamin also purchased the mall’s J.C. Penney store which now part of the project. Plans show the bulk of the site filled with multifamily residential and mixed-use buildings, as well as park spaces and greenways, including a primary greenway that would form a type of pedestrian Main Street through the site. The hotel and arena, closer to Interstate 95, would be built first, with the rest of the site filling out after that. While the mall would be replaced, the plans do call for retaining the food court structure and adapting it as a central, open-air gathering area.  Rob Hargett is principal of Rebkee and is also redeveloping the former Regency Square mall in Henrico with partner Thalhimer Realty.
