AC Marriott Hotel Planned for Waterfront

Plans to build an AC Hotel on East River Street received initial approval from the Savannah Georgia Historic District Review Board. The hotel is planned for the former site of the Savannah Electric Power Company headquarters, which was demolished in 2015 by the hotel’s developer, North Point Hospitality. The hotelier opened the Homewood Suites on the previously undeveloped hillside next to the where the power headquarters once stood in 2016 and also owns property across River Street on the waterfront. The AC Hotel will be situated between the East River Street Ramp onto Bay Street and Homewood Suites. Plans call for a rooftop garden terrace and ground-floor restaurant. The hotel has already received construction permits.

Hotel Proposed on Frenchmen

The city of New Orleans Louisiana is considering plans for a hotel at the corner of Frenchmen and Decatur streets. Properties owners Frenchmen Decatur LLC wants to renovate the vacant three-story building at 502 Frenchmen St. into a 43-unit hotel. The Greek Revival building, built in the early 1800s, has historically operated with commercial uses on the ground floor and residential dwellings above it. The building has 23,600 square feet, and the proposed additions would bring the space to 30,900 square feet. The 4,330 penthouse addition on the fourth floor would add nine units. Suites on the second and third floor would be increased from 7 to 17 units. Mike Motwani is listed as one of the officers of Frenchmen Decatur LLC. Motwani owns many properties in the French Quarter. Land use attorney Mike Sherman, represents Frenchmen Decatur LLC. The project is still in its early stages and would need to receive final approval from the Historic District Landmarks Commission. Virgin Hotel Planned for Broad Street

A Virgin Hotel is planned for Center City as part of a large development project in the works at Broad and Lombard streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The lots at 500 South Broad St. includes the The District Health Center One, constructed in 1960, that was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 2017. The block also includes the former World Communications Charter School, a large surface parking lot and the shuttered XO Lounge dance club. The development group selected for the project is led by The Goldenberg Group, The Badger Group and Harvey and Robert Spear, with design work from Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. The mixed-use project includes residential, student housing, hospitality, restaurants and grocery.

Hotel Tower Planned for Clayton

Developers are planning a $100 million project in Clayton Missouri, a hotel and condominium development. Green Street Real Estate Ventures and its partner Midas Enterprises, plan to build a glass and steel tower on the corner of Forsyth Boulevard and South Central Avenue. Green Street and Midas plan to build 73 condominiums and 180 hotel rooms at 4 South Central Avenue in Clayton. A restaurant, rooftop bar, retail, 400-vehicle parking garage and 300-person event space also are planned. The developers own the property from 2 South Central Avenue to 22 South Central, and from 7814 Forsyth Boulevard to 7818 Forsyth they have under contract to buy. Phil Hulse is CEO of Green Street. David Robert is CEO of Midas.

Delta Marriott Hotel Conversion Planned

A hotel planned for Midtown is heading for its final review at the Cleveland Ohio City Planning Commission. The project will renovate and convert the University Hotel & Suites at 3614 Euclid Ave., a hotel built in 1964, into the 189-room Delta Hotels by Marriott, a brand of 4-star hotels that are mainly located in North America. The 10-story building and its 95,000-square-foot parcel were valued at $1.7 million in 2021. The property was acquired in 2019 by 3614 Euclid Holding LLC for $3.2 million, according to county records. That company is registered to Crimson Rock Capital. Bill Walsh of Walsh Associates and Chris Kaczmar and Christine Raymond of Kaczmar Architects are the project designers.

Residence Inn Marriott Hotel Planned for Midlothian

Hotel developer Sina Hospitality is planning to build a Residence Inn by Marriott at 5249 Commonwealth Centre Parkway in Midlothian Virginia, directly across the street from Uptown Alley, a bowling alley and sports bar, and just off of state Route 288. The plan is to start construction by the end of this year with a goal of opening the hotel by the spring of 2024. Sina Hospitality, a Chesterfield County-based hotel company, operates 26 hotels in five states, including four properties in the Richmond region. The company has a Fairfield Inn and Suites near Richmond International Airport and a Fairfield Inn on Midlothian Turnpike, along with a Candlewood Suites in Colonial Heights and a Hampton Inn in Petersburg. The company is developing a SpringHill Suites in Chester, planned to open in June, and a TownePlace Suites on North Providence Road in Chesterfield and a SpringHill Suites near the airport. The newest hotel at Commonwealth Centre Parkway will have 100 rooms and is expected to employ about 20 to 25 people. Rooms at the hotel will rent for $130 to $159 a night. Arena & Hotel Project Back on Track

A multibillion-dollar funding package was unveiled this week for an arena and hotel project in Las Vegas Nevada. Active Capital Holdings is finding and co-developing the project along with original developer Jackie Robinson. The All Net Resort & Arena project call for an arena with a retractable roof, two luxury hotels, a convention center, a movie theater and on the long-vacant former Wet ’n’ Wild water park site, between Sahara Las Vegas and the under-construction Fontainebleau Las Vegas. Robinson, aims to resume construction in June or July and that his group has already spent about $40 million on the venture. The $4.6 billion project is being designed by Cunningham and HKS Architects.

JW Marriott Hotel Expansion Planned

The City of Los Angeles, California Planning Commission has given the go-ahead to a more than $1 billion project which will simultaneously expand the Los Angeles Convention Center and adjoining J.W. Marriott hotel complex. The plan, which is being carried out through a public-private partnership between the City of Los Angeles, AEG, and Plenary Group, calls for the construction of a 37-story tower above an existing parking garage at Chick Hearn Court and Georgia Street featuring a total of 861 hotel guest rooms and a conference center with 228,000 square feet of meeting rooms, multipurpose space, and other functions. The Gensler-designed tower would rise approximately 450 feet in height, and include a large amenity deck facing the western property line. The existing garage, converted into a podium for the hotel, would be wrapped with more than 20,000 square feet of signage. Combined with the existing J.W. Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotel, which features just over 1,000 guest rooms, the expanded project would be the second largest hotel in California if built today.

Springhill Suites Planned for Orange Beach

The town of Orange Beach Alabama approved a new hotel for the west end of Beach Road during the Feb. 22 council session. The new Springhill Suites with have a Perdido Beach Boulevard address and be accessed through Ruby Lane between Doc’s Steak and Seafood on the east and the Ruby Slipper on the west. A total of 120 rooms are proposed and the building will be seven stories. Plans are for the pool to front beach road and the developers will build a sidewalk across the front of the property with an access sidewalk to the pool. Art Favre of Wharf Retail Properties LLC is developing the property along with Performance Contractors, Cohen Investments Inc & OKS Investments LLD.

World Equestrian Hotel Construction Begins

World Equestrian Center in Ocala Florida has broken ground on a second, four-story hotel located inside the 378-acre equestrian and multipurpose facility park. The new pet-friendly hotel has been designed to accommodate an extended-stay customer and will feature 400 larger, suite-like rooms. Plans also include an 80,000-square-foot restaurant complex adjacent to the hotel. The hotel is planned to open in June 2024. The hotel will cater to busy guests with a large grab-and-go marketplace featuring fresh, convenient food products. A fitness center and on-site washer/dryer amenities will be available. Outdoor recreation amenities will include a pool and feature lawn game activities. A special fenced dog park will be available for canine guests.
