Hotel developer Main Street Community Capital headed by David Rachie will oversee construction of a new 116 guestroom Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Mason City, Iowa. Main Street also plans to construct a conference center with space for 1,500 that will connect by skywalk to the Music Man Square/Meredith Willson Museum. Hotel amenities will include expanded food offerings, a fitness center and indoor pool. The project is expected to break ground next spring and open by summer 2023. The hotel and conference center will be managed by Meyer Jabara Hotels.

RIU Hotels & Resorts plans to build a Riu Plaza urban hotels after purchasing a plot of land in the heart of Chicago. The newly-built skyscraper will house a hotel with 28 floors and more than 350 rooms. Construction work will begin in spring 2022 and is expected to last for around two years. The building that houses RIU’s new 4-star hotel will be Chicago School, an architectural style developed in this city in the late 19th and early 20th century that used pioneering materials and techniques to construct large buildings. The future Riu Plaza hotel will be located at 150 East Ontario Street in the Streeterville neighbourhood, an area that is brimming with commercial and cultural life close to the famous Navy Pier, with the Chicago River to the south and Lake Michigan to the east. It will be fully focused on travellers visiting the city for business or tourism and will offer a competitive range of services including breakfast, just like the chain’s other Riu Plaza urban hotels. The classic facade will complement the building’s modern and functional interior, with a stand-out Sky Bar on the 26th floor.

A developer of the Legacy Hotel & Residences within the Miami World Center mixed-use project in Miami Florida obtained a $340 million construction loan to move the development forward. Silverstein Capital Partners, issued the construction load to Royal Palm Cos for the 1.53-acre property at 942 N.E. First Ave. The developer can use the construction loan to bring the project to completion, which is scheduled for 2024. Legacy will rise 50 stories, with 310 branded condos available for short-term rentals, a 219-room hotel, and the 120,000-square-foot health and wellness center. The latter component was pre-leased for 10 years to Blue Legacy Ventures, a joint venture between Royal Palm Cos. affiliate Legacy Medical Holdings and Adventist Health. It will be operated through its Blue Zones preventative health care subsidiary. The hotel will be operated by Accor under the Morgan’s Originals portfolio. Amenities will include a one-acre pool deck with three pools, a rooftop pool, and a seven-floor rooftop atrium with a restaurant, bar and lounge. There would be many health-focused features in the building, such as medical-grade air filtration systems, voice-activated elevators, touchless room key access, and cleaning robots. Kobi Karp Architects, Design Agency, and ID & Design International are among the firms working on design of the tower. Moss & Associates is the general contractor.

Developer Mangat Group, a real estate investment and development company founded by Tony Mangat, has plans to bring new medical office, hospitality and retail to Buckeye Arizona. The proposal includes two office buildings, a hotel and restaurant, the project will total about 132,756 square feet at the intersection of Yuma Road and Sundance Parkway. The total cost of development for the four buildings will total more than $38 million. The restaurant will total 7,744 square feet, the 4-story hotel will include 56,412 square feet and the smaller medical office will be comprised of 12,500 square feet on the southwest corner of the intersection. Buckeye is now home to more than 91,000 people, which is a nearly 80% increase from 2010.

The City of Lake Ozark Missouri has issued and RFP to hotel developers for a proposal to build a resort hotel development. The request deadline is January 10th 2022 for the construction of a mixed use development that would include a 200-600 room hotel, 4-8 restaurants, 5-12 retail shops, 1,500-2,500 seat event center, entertainment venues, amphitheater, and work force housing. The proposal could include one or multiple developments on land specified by the city.

Dutch hotel brand CitizenM is opening its second boutique hotel in Seattle Washington at an old saw mill site in Pioneer Square. The 10-story, 232-room hotel at 60 Yesler Way is set to open in early 2022. Concrete designs & CitizenM hotels worked with Gensler on the project. Mortenson is the general contractor. Seattle artist Ryan Feddersen is designing facade artwork for the building. CitizenM hotels are known for technology and contemporary art and furniture, in which guests can check in using their phones and control the blinds, TVs and both the brightness and color of lights with an iPad.

The property owner-management firm of the historic Lewis Hotel in Cherokee Iowa, and is planning to restore the landmark structure. Zachary Z. Zoul, owner of Zoul Properties LLC, acquired the 122-year-old building at 231 W. Main St., a little over two weeks ago for $420,000. Zoul owns and manages numerous multi-residential properties in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri and Kansas. Zoul is planning a more than $1 million, multi-phase project for the mixed-use building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Oppenheimer Development and architect Next Partners plan to renovate and redevelopment The Sparrow hotel in downtown Boise, Idaho. For more than 50 years, the old motor lodge has stood at the corner of 11th St. and Grove St. in Downtown Boise. The three-story building is right in the heart of Downtown Boise, complete with a pool, free breakfast room, a small lobby and about 60 hotel rooms. The hotel will receive a completely new look and vibe. Erik Nelson in CEO of Next Partners.

Developer Mortenson Development is planning to build a nine story hotel at Judge Doyle Square in Madison Wisconsin. The 262 guestroom Embassy Suites hotel is part of a $175 million redevelopment of property northeast of the Madison Municipal Building. In October Beitler Real Estate Services agreed to hand over the rights to Mortenson Development to build the nine-story hotel for the two-block, private-public redevelopment. The rights transfer included the city selling the property for the hotel to Mortenson for $4 million instead of issuing a lease. Mortenson said it plans to break ground in the spring, with the hotel opening in 2024. The cost of the project was not disclosed by Mortenson. Cameron Snyder is the spokesperson for Mortenson. The project is being designed by Kahler Slater Architects.

Penn-Florida Cos. has received two loans totaling $335 million to finance the development of Via Mizner, a mixed-use development in downtown Boca Raton Florida that will feature a hotel, apartments, golf course and retail space. Blackstone Mortgage Trust Inc. provided a $195 million senior loan for Via Mizner’s multifamily component, 101 Via Mizner Luxury Apartments. Romspen Investment Corp., a Canadian-based lender, provided a $140 million senior construction loan for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Via Mizner Golf & City Club. Via Mizner is a three-phase, three-building project. The first phase comprises the 101 Via Mizner, which is fully leased. The second phase is the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Boca Raton, and the third phase includes the Residences at the Mandarin Oriental, Boca Raton. All three phases are expected to be completed by the end of 2022. 101 Via Mizner is a tower that features 366 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The high-rise has private terraces, hurricane-impact windows, sliding glass doors and in-unit washers and dryers. Community amenities include a fitness center, cyber café, pool, clubroom, valet parking and bicycle storage. The Residences at Mandarin Oriental will offer 86 private condominium homes and a sky bridge connected to the 164-room Mandarin Oriental. The hotel amenities will feature The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, two rooftop pools, a conference center, rooftop restaurant and bar, athletic club and several dining experiences. The mixed-use project will also include the Via Mizner Golf & City Club, an invitation-only private club with two venues. The Golf Club, which is located at 6200 Boca Del Mar Drive, includes an 18-hole course, driving range, fully equipped pro shop, pool, spa, Kids Splash Zone, grill room and bar, family wellness center, tennis courts and a clubhouse.
