The 17-story, 395-suite Hilton Universal City at 555 Universal Hollywood Drive in Universal City, California is planning an addition. Construction is expected to start in 2023 and be completed in 2025. Mark Davis, chief executive Sun Hill Properties Inc. owns the hotel and is planning the expansion. Developer Sun Hill intends to add 395 new rooms to the 24-story hotel’s existing 495 suites by building the new addition on an adjacent site. The plan also calls for the creation of a parking garage that can accommodate 408 vehicles as well as a restaurant, conference rooms and rooftop pool. The hotel extension, designed by Large Architecture, will scale 230 feet high.

An eleven story hotel and water park are being proposed next to Circuit of The Americas in Southeast Austin, Texas. The project is being planned by developer Rocky Williams, president of Arm Epic Lodging Partners. The project architect is CallisonRTKL. The hotel will include, meeting and ballroom space with 508 guestrooms and is planned to begin construction in the 2nd quarter of 2021. The developer will bring on additional partners to complete the project.

A property just west of the Aventura Mall in Aventura Florida could be developed into a mixed-use project with office, hotel and retail. Star Holdings Management LLC, owned by Raphael Ammar of Ness Realty, filed an administrative site plan review application for the Gateway. Located at 2630 and 2600 N.E. 203rd St. The site currently has small office and apartment buildings, which would both be demolished. The Gateway would have 100,800 square feet of office, 7,200 square feet of retail, 167 extended stay hotel rooms, 21,760 square feet of convention space, and 492 parking spaces. International Design Engineering Architecture (IDEA) designed the project. The six-story office building would be the first phase and the 12-story hotel would be the second phase.

The Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority plans to re-develop the Millennium Hotel in downtown Cincinnati Ohio. The hotel at 35 W Fifth will be demolished and rebuilt as a full service convention hotel. Turner Construction Co is servicing at construction manager for the demolition along with D.E. Foxx & Associates. O’Rourke Wrecking Co will perform the demo. Turner Construction will partner with Jostin Construction and D.E. Foxx on the redevelopment of the property. Laura Brunner is president and CEO of the Port. David Spaulding is VP and manager of Turner Construction. Liza Smitherman is VP at Jostin Construction. The first phase of the Millennium Hotel project will include demolition of the 872-room, two tower building, which is expected to begin in the next two months and take a year to complete. The demolition will be a combination of mechanical demolition and controlled implosion. The next phase will involve interviews with engineering and architecture firms to join Elevar Design Group, the design firm overseeing the new hotel development.

Work has begun on phase 1 of Treasure Island a mixed use 500 acre project including 550,000 sq ft of commercial and 500 hotel rooms and 8,000 housing units in San Francisco California. The project is being developed by Lennar, Stockbridge and Wilson Meany. Architects designing the project include: Skidmore Owing & Merrill, David Baker Architects, Edmonds + Lee Architects, Fougeron Architecture and Handel Architects. Work has commenced on the residential portion. The commercial and hotel components will began construction in Q2 2021.

Developers are planning to build a $40 million upscale hotel and apartment complex in Corpus Christi’s Texas North Beach. The project is being proposed by hotel developer Jeff Blackard of McKinney. The project called the Frazier would include a 6 story, 200 room Marriott hotel facing the beach at Breaker Avenue and Surfside Blvd. 180 multifamily apartment units would be attached to the hotel. Architect Lockwood, Andrews & Newman is designing the project.

A Cambria Suites Hotel is being proposed for Spartanburg South Carolina. The hotel is planned for the corner of North Church and East St. John Streets. The six story hotel will contain 119 guestrooms. Developer Suraj Mistry is proposing the project which is being designed by project engineer Danny Balon of Seamon Whiteside. Construction is set to begin in the first quarter of 2021.

The United Co, Par Ventures & Hard Rock International have proposed to develop the Hard Rock Bristol Hotel and Casino at the former Bristol Mall in Virginia where the resort and casino would go if it is approved.  A 350-room hotel with a pool and outdoor entertainment area is planned. Inside the two-level casino complex there are plans for seven restaurants, four bars, a 3,200-seat indoor venue, a 20,000-person outdoor entertainment venue, a Hard Rock Cafe with a stage, shops, spa, fitness center as well as a convention and meeting space. Sean Caffery is senior vice president of business and casino development for Hard Rock. Jim McGlothlin is CEO of The United Co. and Clyde Stacy, president of Par Ventures and owner of the nearly 46-acre mall property. Hard Rock would be the facility’s management partner.

The nation’s largest simulated surfing park, is planned at 10050 Midway Road in Fort Pierce Florida as a part of a 200-acre community development including 800 residential homes, 600 hotel rooms, 400,000 square-feet of retail space, and 125,000 of office space. The Willow Lakes Village is expected to cost $595 million in new construction, and the first phase of building could begin in the third quarter of 2021, depending on permitting and approvals. The first phase would cost $40 million, would feature the WaveGarden and food and beverage facilities, and a 150-room hotel. The surfing center will be know as Surfworks Resort. The facility features a massive swimming pool-like area that creates up to 1,000 waves an hour and around 100 surfers at any moment. The project has gone through traffic studies, engineering reviews and environmental concerns. Devcon Enterprises is the project developer, managed by Chad Labonte. Bohler Engineering is designing the project. A similar Surfworks Resort is planned in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
